The Ministry of Health has just issued Official Dispatch 285/BHXH-CSYT regarding the implementation of Circular 39/2018/TT-BYT.

According to Official Dispatch 285, the inpatient treatment day is calculated with bed charges applied on the day the patient stays and receives treatment at the clinical department for 4 hours or more.

The number of inpatient treatment days is calculated by subtracting the admission day from the discharge day and adding 1, applicable to the following cases:

- The patient is critically ill without improvement, dies, or their condition worsens and they are transferred to a higher-level hospital or the family requests to take them home;- The patient is treated at a higher-level hospital after the emergency phase but still needs continued inpatient treatment and is transferred to a lower-level hospital or another medical facility.

The number of inpatient treatment days is calculated by subtracting the admission day from the discharge day for the remaining cases.

A patient admitted and discharged/transferred/died on the same day or admitted one day and discharged/transferred/died the following day with treatment duration from 4 hours to 24 hours is counted as 1 inpatient treatment day.

For more details, refer to Official Dispatch 285/BHXH-CSYT issued on January 25, 2019.
