Guidelines for the implementation of the Continuing Education Program on Practical English in Vietnam
Bảo Ngọc

On October 20, 2021, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam has Circular 28/2021/TT-BGDĐT promulgating the Continuing Education Program on practice English.

According to the Circular,  the Continuing Education Program on Practical English is built according to the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam. The recommended teaching time to complete the goal of each level of competency is as follows:

- Level 1: 120-150 hours;

- Level 2: 200-250 hours;

- Level 3: 300-350 hours;

- Level 4: 350-450 hours;

- Level 5: 450-600 hours;

- Level 6: 1000-1200 hours.

The recommended duration for each competency level is the number of hours of study that learners do in the context of formal learning (in the classroom).

Teaching time for each level of ability may not be the same for different learners and depends on factors such as: age, learning motivation, cultural level, self-study time of each individual and entry level.

Based on the above proposal on teaching time, educational institutions need to allocate teaching time flexibly to maximize the learning ability of learners and in accordance with actual teaching conditions.

For details of the educational program, see Circular 28/2021/TT-BGDĐT of Vietnam which takes effect from December 5, 2021 and replaces Decision 66/2008/QD-BGDĐT.
