Guidelines for payment of health insurance premiums for COVID-19 test in Vietnam

On May 28, 2021, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Dispatch 4356/BYT-KHTC on guidance on actual payment rates for COVID-19 test.

According the Official Dispatch, the health insurance payment rates for COVID-19 tests are specifically guided by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam as follows:

- The payment price in Vietnam is made according to the service price No. 1735: Real-time PCR test for bacteria/virus/fungal/parasite is 734,000 VND/sample.

- For application samples: in case the sampling unit must send the test sample to another unit to perform it, then:

Service charge for taking and preserving specimens: VND 117,800/sample
Price for testing: 616,200 VND/sample.

- In case of payment for aggregate samples in Vietnam:

Price of taking and preserving specimens: 100,000 VND/sample.
The cost of performing the test is VND 634,000 divided by the number of pooled samples (for example, if 5 samples are combined into 1 test, divide by 5).
In case of pooling of positive samples, single sample tests must be continued. The cost of performing these tests will be calculated according to the case of single samples.
