On December 07, 2018, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 40/2018/TT-BYT stipulating the management of infectious disease specimens.
According to the new regulation, in the event of a specimen spill during transportation, the following steps must be taken:
- Implement the procedures in Appendix VI issued with Circular 40/2018/TT-BYT;- The specimen transporter must contact the recipient unit, the sending unit, or the nearest medical facility for handling instructions;- In cases of direct exposure to infectious materials, the exposed area must be washed with soap or water, or disinfected; the exposed person must be taken to the nearest medical facility for consultation and treatment;- After implementing the above measures, the individual must report the incident to the sending unit. For Category A infectious materials, the incident must be immediately reported to the Department of Health in the area where the incident occurred.
