On April 25, 2022, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Vietnam issued Dispatch 947/VSDTTU-TCQG on Documents guiding the implementation of a campaign to vaccinate against COVID-19 for children from 5 to under 12 years old.
According to the Official Dispatch in Vietnam, children from 5 to under 12 years old will be vaccinated with 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, which will be implemented from the second quarter of 2022 in 100% of communes and wards nationwide.
Specifically, two types of COVID-19 vaccines for use in children from 5 years old to under 12 years old that have been approved by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam include:
+ Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty vaccine (10 mcg content): for children aged 5 to under 12 years.
+ COVID-19 vaccine Moderna: For children aged 6 to 12 years.
- The injection schedule includes 2 injections. The interval between injections is 4 weeks.
- Deployment method:
+ Vaccination campaigns are organized at schools, health stations, fixed and mobile vaccination facilities.
Based on the situation of vaccine supply and human resources, localities in Vietnam can deploy simultaneously throughout the province or "roll" according to the locality.
+ Organize school-based immunization in Vietnam: The target group will include 6th graders in junior high school, students in primary school (grades 1–5), and 5-year-old children in kindergarten.
Prioritize deployment for the 11-year-old age group (grade 6), lowering the age gradually.
+ Set up fixed vaccination stations in health clinics and hospitals.
+ Set up mobile vaccination stations in each hamlet/neighborhood or cluster of villages/hamlets/neighborhoods near each other in congested areas.
