Guidance on submitting data on healthcare covered by health insurance in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health (Hanoi, Vietnam) has just issued Circular 48/2017/TT-BYT stipulating the extraction and transfer of electronic data (ED) in the management and payment of healthcare costs covered by health insurance.

The submission of electronic data for the purpose of requesting assessment and payment of healthcare costs covered by health insurance must be carried out within 7 days from the date the healthcare service is completed.

The procedure is implemented as follows:

- Check and compare to correct any discrepancies if the electronic data does not match the actual situation, supplement any missing information, or remove any inappropriate information;

- Authenticate the electronic data requesting assessment and payment of healthcare costs covered by health insurance before submitting the data by the assigned person or the authorized person;

- Submit the electronic data to the Ministry of Health Reception Portal and the health insurance assessment information portal;

In case there are costs incurred for healthcare services at the end of the month, quarter, or year, submit the electronic data before the 5th day of the following month.

More details can be found in Circular 48/2017/TT-BYT, which comes into force in Vietnam from March 1, 2018.
