On January 31, 2018, the Ministry of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 742/BYT-BH to Vietnam Social Security providing guidance on the validity of health insurance cards. Accordingly:
The validity period of health insurance cards for children under 6 years of age born after September 30 is implemented as prescribed in Point d Clause 3 Article 16 of the Health Insurance Law. To be specific:
- For children under 6 years of age, the health insurance card is valid until the child reaches 72 months old;- In cases where the child reaches 72 months old but has not yet reached the school enrollment period, the health insurance card is valid until the end of September 30 of that year.
The Ministry of Health requests Vietnam Social Security to be responsible for directing and guiding various levels of Social Insurance to implement according to the above-stated regulations.
Additionally, in Official Dispatch 742, the Ministry of Health requests that Social Insurance soon issue a guiding document for cases where the health insurance card expires while the individual is still receiving treatment, in accordance with Clause 2 Article 11 of Decree 105/2014/ND-CP.
