Graduating in Journalism is not a Necessity to Become a Reporter

Joint Circular 11/2016/TTLT-BTTTT-BNV stipulating the codes and standards for public employees as Editors, Reporters, Translators, and Television Directors in the Information and Communications specialty was promulgated on April 7, 2016.

The standards for the training and education level required for a Grade II Journalist are stipulated as follows:

- Holds a university degree or higher in journalism; in case of other majors, must complete a journalism professional training course of over 08 weeks;

- Has basic information technology skills as per the standard defined by Circular 03/2014/TT-BTTTT;

- Has foreign language proficiency at level 3 (B1) as defined in Circular 01/2014/TT-BGDDT;

- Holds an Intermediate level certificate or higher in political theory;

- Holds a certificate of the standard training for Grade II Journalists.

A Grade II Journalist must also meet standards for professional competence and expertise.

Additionally, this Circular also specifies the standards for Grade I and Grade III Journalists.

The Joint Circular 11/2016/TTLT-BTTTT-BNV takes effect from May 25, 2016.
