The Government of Vietnam agreed to extend the validity of e-visas in Vietnam as stipulated in Resolution 46/NQ-CP dated March 31, 2023, at the special session on law-making, March 2023.

Government of Vietnam to agree to extend the validity of e-visas in Vietnam

Regarding the draft Resolution on a number of new policies in the field of entry, exit, transit, and residence management of foreigners in Vietnam:

the Government of Vietnam assigns the Ministry of Public Security to take the lead, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, to complete the procedures in accordance with the law for the Government of Vietnam to submit to the National Assembly for consideration to include in the joint Resolution of the National Assembly at the 5th Session (May 2023) some new policies in the field of entry, exit, transit, and residence management of foreigners in Vietnam covering the following 03 policies:

(1) Implement the policy of issuing e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories. Assign the Government of Vietnam to decide on the specific list of countries and territories on a reciprocal basis, ensuring national defense, national security, social order, public safety, and the socio-economic development of Vietnam;

(2) Extend the validity period of e-visas from no more than 30 days to no more than 03 months, valid for single or multiple entries;

(3) Extend the temporary residence certification at the border gate for entrants under unilateral visa exemption from 15 days to 45 days.

Assign the Minister of Public Security to sign the submission of the Government of Vietnam to the National Assembly at the 5th Session regarding the above content.

A law will be issued to amend 02 laws on entry and exit in Vietnam

Regarding the proposal to draft a Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam:

- the Government of Vietnam unanimously agrees on the necessity and objectives of amending and supplementing the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam to:

+ Institutionalize the Party's policies, address the obstacles and inadequacies during the implementation of these 02 laws;

+ Provide a legal basis to promote administrative reforms, decentralize the resolution of administrative procedures, and implement online administrative procedures;

+ Facilitate citizens and contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the country.

- The Government of Vietnam basically agrees with the policy of drafting 01 law to amend and supplement the above-mentioned 02 laws to report to the National Assembly for approval at the 6th Session (October 2023) following a one-session procedure.

Assign the Ministry of Public Security to take the lead, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and related agencies, to continue researching and incorporating the opinions of members of the Government of Vietnam regarding 04 policies; complete the dossier proposing the Law in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Promulgation of Legal Documents; and submit to the Government of Vietnam at the regular Government meeting in March (scheduled for April 3, 2023).
