From March 01, inspection is mandatory for all cars imported into Vietnam

This is a new content mentioned in Circular No. 03/2018/TT-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam on technical and environmental safety inspection of imported motor vehicles regulated by Decree No. 116/2017/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government.

According to Circular No. 03/2018/TT-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam, used or unused cars imported into Vietnam must be checked for technical quality and environmental protection according to the following steps: 

- Submission of the application for inspection;

- Receipt of application;

- Vehicle inspection;

- Testing sample vehicles;

- Issuance of certificate of quality.

The physical or electronic certificate of quality of imported motor vehicles shall be used for:

- Customs procedures;

- Payment of registration fee;

- Vehicle registration;

- First inspection or other procedures requested by competent authorities.

Notably, Circular No. 03/2018/TT-BGTVT does not apply to imported motor vehicles specified in Point b Clause 2 Article 2 of Decree No. 116/2017/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government.

Circular No. 03/2018/TT-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam takes effect from March 01, 2018.
