From February 15, 2024, it is permissable to conduct the lower secondary school graduation assessment twice a year in Vietnam

The number of times the lower secondary school graduation assessment during one year in Vietnam is stipulated as follows:

- For education and traning institutions implementing the lower secondary education program, in a year when students complete Grade 9, the graduation assessment can be conducted up to 2 (two) times.

The first graduation assessment is conducted right after the end of the school year. The second graduation assessment (if any) is conducted before the start of the new school year.

- For education and traning institutions implementing the continuing education program at the lower secondary school level, in a year when students complete Grade 9, the graduation assessment is conducted at least once right after the end of the school year.

(Meanwhile, according to Decision 11/2006/QD-BGDDT, the number of times the graduation assessment for the continuing education program at the lower secondary school level in one year is regulated as follows:

- For lower secondary school students, the graduation assessment is conducted once a year, right after the end of the school year (according to the academic year plan of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam).

- For learners following the continuing education program at the lower secondary school level (hereinafter referred to as lower secondary continuing education), the number of times the graduation assessment in one year is determined by the Department of Education and Training and submitted to the provincial People's Committee for decision.)

More details may be found in Circular 31/2023/TT-BGDDT effective from February 15, 2024, replacing Decision 11/2006/QD-BGDDT.

The lower secondary school graduation assessment according to Decision 11/2006/QD-BGDDT issued the Regulation on lower secondary school graduation assessment will be conducted until the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
