From 01/07/2024, people will be able to present their driving licenses through VNeID in Vietnam

The documents related to individuals and vehicles that the traffic police will check include:

• Driving license;

• Certificate of legal knowledge training on road traffic, and certificates for operating specialized motorcycles;

• Vehicle registration certificate or a certified copy of the vehicle registration certificate with the original receipt from the credit institution still valid (while the credit institution holds the original vehicle registration certificate);

• Certificate of inspection, inspection stamp for technical safety and environmental protection, and confirmation of the validity period of the inspection certificate and stamp (for types of vehicles required to be inspected);

• Compulsory civil liability insurance certificate of the motor vehicle owner and other necessary documents as per regulations (hereinafter collectively referred to as documents);

Notably, if the information from these documents has been integrated and updated in the electronic ID, electronic identification account on the National Identification Application, or in the database managed by the Ministry of Public Security, the verification and control can be done through the information in the electronic ID, electronic identification account on the National Identification Application, or the database.

Verifying the information of documents in the electronic ID, electronic identification account on the National Identification Application, or the database holds the same validity as directly checking the documents.

As a result of the integration and updating of the driving license on VNeID starting on 01/07/2024, verifying the driving license through VNeID has the same validity as checking physical documents in Vietnam.

More details can be found in Circular 28/2024/TT-BCA which comes into force from 01/07/2024 except for Article 2 Circular 28/2024/TT-BCA which takes effect from 01/08/2024.
