On June 23, 2021, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Dispatch 5028/BYT-KHTC stipulating the instruction on the funding sources to pay for testing costs for SARS-CoV-2 virus when increasing testing at medical examination and treatment facilities.
The Official Dispatch stipulates the frequency of COVID-19 testing at medical examination and treatment establishments in Vietnam as follows:
- For officials, medical staff, and workers at medical examination and treatment establishments in Vietnam: perform testing periodically every 07 days;
- For patients who need to be transferred to inpatient treatment after an outpatient examination, testing shall be carried out immediately after a decision is made to transfer to inpatient treatment;
- For patients referred to hospitals, testing must be performed;
- For patients undergoing inpatient treatment: perform testing periodically every seven days of treatment. In the event that there is a case of COVID-19 in the inpatient treatment area, all subjects should be tested immediately;
- For family members taking care of the patient who are allowed to stay in the hospital: in case the patient is inpatient treatment for less than 07 days or 03 days, they are entitled to 1 test for SARS-CoV-2 virus for the family member taking care of the patient and for the patient. In the event that the patient is inpatient treatment for 3 or 7 days or more, he/she is entitled to 02 tests for COVID-19 for family members taking care of the patient.
- For patients before hospital discharge in Vietnam: not applicable.
Price for payment of testing costs for COVID-19: follow the guidance of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam (currently Official Dispatch 4356/BYT-KHTC dated May 28, 2021).
