Foreign language proficiency standards to be satisfied by tour guides in Vietnam from August 20, 2024 

Specifically, from August 20, 2024, foreign language proficiency standards to be satisfied by tour guides for cases prescribed in Point c Clause 2 Article 59 of the Law on Tourism 2017 include: 

- He/she holds at least an Advanced Diploma in Level 5 of VQF in linguistics or a foreign language, foreign language interpretation or foreign language teacher education;

- He/she holds at least an Advanced Diploma in Level 5 of VQF under the training program designed in a foreign language. If the diploma or appendix to the diploma does not state the language used for training, documents proving the language used for training are required;

- He/she holds at least an associate degree issued by a foreign training institution under the training program designed in the official language of the home country. If the language used for training is different from the official language of the home country , the degree or appendix to the degree does not state the language used for training, documents proving the language used for training are required;

- He/she holds one of the following unexpired certificates of foreign language proficiency issued by a competent authority or organization:

+ Certificate of foreign language proficiency at level 4 or higher of Vietnam’s Language Proficiency Framework;

+ Certificate of foreign language proficiency issued by a foreign authority equivalent to level 4 or higher of Vietnam’s Language Proficiency Framework or equivalent to level B2 or higher of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or satisfies the requirement specified in the Appendix I of Circular No. 04/2024/TT-BVHTTDL.

Attention: The degree awarded by a foreign training institution shall be acknowledged in accordance with regulations of law on education, higher education and vocational education and training.
