Exemption and Reduction of Medical Examination Fees for Victims of Domestic Violence

On May 17, 2017, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 24/2017/TT-BYT on the process of receiving, providing medical care, and statistical reporting for patients who are victims of domestic violence at medical examination and treatment facilities.

The patient who is a victim of domestic violence shall receive medical examination and treatment according to the general regulations like any other patient; and may be considered for exemption or reduction of medical examination and treatment costs if unable to pay due to difficult circumstances.

During the medical examination and treatment process, the patient who is a victim of domestic violence shall receive:

- Comprehensive examination to avoid missing any physical, mental, or sexual injuries related to domestic violence;- Inquiry by the physician about the history of domestic violence and any symptoms, signs of violence;- In cases where the patient's injuries exceed the expertise of the facility, the patient shall be transferred to another medical facility as guided by Circular 14/2014/TT-BYT.
