Enhancement of food safety, food poisoning prevention, and overcoming damages caused by No. 3 typhoon in Vietnam

In accordance with the instructions from the Ministry of Health of Vietnam in Official Telegram 1116/CD-BYT dated September 8, 2024, regarding proactive measures to overcome damages caused by No. 3 typhoon, and based on the actual situation of widespread flooding and landslides causing division, the Department of Food Safety requests the Health Departments, Food Safety Management Boards, and Food Safety Sub-Departments of the Northern provinces and cities directly affected by No. 3 typhoon to carry out the following tasks:

- For areas affected by flooding and landslides causing division, develop plans to ensure the supply of safe food, drinking water, and other essentials. Encourage the public to use ready-to-eat, processed foods such as dry provisions, instant noodles, bottled water, etc.

- Educate and guide the public in selecting, processing, and using safe food. Absolutely prohibit the use of dead livestock and poultry for food preparation. In cases where water sources such as drilled wells or shallow wells are flooded, they must be filtered and disinfected before use.

- Direct, guide, and cooperate with preventive health units, treatment facilities, and medical stations to strengthen surveillance of food poisoning and foodborne diseases in the community. Upon detecting any cases of digestive disorders or suspected food poisoning, promptly address the issue to minimize harm to public health.

- Collaborate with central and local functional authorities to control the quality of food, drinking water, and other supplies provided by organizations and individuals to communities in flood-affected areas, ensuring that spoiled, moldy, broken, or expired products do not reach the public.
