Decree 100 Issued: Riding a Bicycle While Drinking Alcohol or Beer May Be Fined Up to 600,000 VND

the Government of Vietnam has just issued Decree 100/2019/ND-CP on Regulations on Administrative Penalties in the field of Road and Railway Traffic.

Article 8 of Decree 100 specifies the penalty levels for bicycle, motorized bicycle (including electric bicycle) operators, and operators of other rudimentary vehicles when violating regulations on alcohol content from January 1, 2020, as follows:

- A fine of 80,000 VND to 100,000 VND for operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration that does not exceed 50 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or does not exceed 0.25 milligrams/1 liter of breath;- A fine of 200,000 VND to 300,000 VND for operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration exceeding 50 milligrams to 80 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.25 milligrams to 0.4 milligrams/1 liter of breath;- A fine of 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND for operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.4 milligrams/1 liter of breath.
