The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has just issued Decision 2233/QD-BCDQG on promulgating guidelines for handling the corpses of individuals who died due to acute respiratory infections caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the community.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the guidelines issued with Decision 2233/QD-BCDQG clearly state that the remains of a person infected with SARS-CoV-2 must be cremated; burial is only allowed if cremation cannot be performed.
As soon as a person dies due to SARS-CoV-2 infection, the handling of the remains should be conducted immediately as follows:
- Call to notify the local government, local health authority, or the Ministry of Health (phone: 1900 3228 or 1900 9095) for consultation and support in handling the remains;- Limit access for people without duty to the area where the person died from SARS-CoV-2 infection, except for health workers and those involving in handling the remains;- Wrap the remains in a body bag: use waterproof materials to line inside the body bag and seal the bag tightly;- ...
For details, see Decision 2233/QD-BCDQG, effective from May 29, 2020.
