Recently, Vietnam Social Security issued Official Dispatch No. 902/BHXH-CSYT regarding the provision of outpatient medications for chronic diseases and long-term treatments during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vietnam Social Security requests that the provincial Social Security Agencies coordinate with healthcare facilities providing health insurance as follows:
- For patients with chronic diseases such as Diabetes, Hypertension, etc. who are receiving regular outpatient examination and medication on a monthly basis, on their next follow-up appointment, they will be given enough outpatient medication for 02 months and scheduled for a follow-up examination every 02 months, provided that it ensures the safety of the patient and does not affect the treatment regimen;- In case the patient comes for a follow-up earlier than scheduled due to abnormal symptoms necessitating a change in medication, the healthcare facility shall guide the patient to return the unused medication for redistribution to other patients as per treatment requirements.
This unified content is only applicable during the COVID-19 pandemic prevention phase and at healthcare facilities at the district level or higher.
