Circular 25: Classification of contaminated sites in Vietnam applied from February 15, 2020

Recently, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam has issued the Circular No. 25/2019/TT-BTNMT to elaborate some Articles of the Government’s Decree No. 40/2019/ND-CP dated May 13, 2019 on amendments to Decrees on guidelines for the Law on Environmental Protection and provide for management of environmental monitoring services.

According to the Circular No. 25/2019/TT-BTNMT of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam, contaminated sites shall be classified into 03 following levels:

- Total weighted point < 50: low-level environmental contamination and chemical and pesticide residual-contamination.

- 50 ≤ total weighted point ≤ 75: Medium-level environmental contamination and chemical and pesticide residual-contamination.

- Total weighted point > 75: High-level extremely severe environmental contamination and chemical and pesticide residual-contamination.

The point-based assessment shall be carried out according to the Form No. 03 Appendix V hereof.
