By 2030, to provide training to 50,000 university-level personnel in the semiconductor industry in Vietnam

On September 21, 2024, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam promulgated Decision 1017/QD-TTg approving the Program "Development of Human Resources for the Semiconductor Industry until 2030, with Orientation to 2050"

By 2030, to provide training to 50,000 university-level personnel in the semiconductor industry in Vietnam

The Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam has approved the Program "Development of Human Resources for the Semiconductor Industry by 2030, with orientations until 2050," with the following objectives:

(1) General objectives

- By 2030, Vietnam will train and develop a high-quality workforce in the semiconductor industry, focusing on the stages of semiconductor chip design, packaging, and testing; gradually mastering technologies in the semiconductor manufacturing stage; including training at least 50,000 individuals with a university degree or higher to serve the semiconductor industry across all stages of its value chain.

- By 2050, Vietnam will have a strong workforce that integrates into the global semiconductor industry value chain; capable of meeting the requirements for the development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry both in quality and quantity.

(2) Specific objectives

- By 2030:

+ Train at least 50,000 individuals with a university degree or higher to serve the semiconductor industry, including:

++  At  least  42,000  engineers  and  bachelors;  at  least  7,500  master  students  and  500  doctoral  candidates;

++  At  least  15,000  personnel  trained  in  the  design  stage,  at  least  35,000  personnel  in  the  stages  of  manufacturing,  packaging,  testing,  and  other  stages  of  the  semiconductor  industry;

++  At  least  5,000  personnel  trained  in  deep  expertise  in  artificial  intelligence  to  serve  the  semiconductor  industry.

+ Provide in-depth training on the semiconductor industry for 1,300 Vietnamese lecturers teaching at research institutes, higher education institutions, training support facilities, and enterprises.

+ Based on budget balancing capabilities, the state budget will support investment to establish, upgrade, and modernize 04 national common semiconductor laboratories and institutional-level semiconductor laboratories to serve the training of human resources for the semiconductor industry at approximately 18 public universities in the three regions: North, Central, and South.

- By 2050:

+ Meet the demand in Vietnam for the quantity and quality of human resources in the semiconductor industry in all stages of the value chain;

+ Training institutions, especially higher education institutions in Vietnam, will be capable of training high-quality human resources to support the development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry.
