By 2026, 50% of schools in Vietnam must conduct assessment of mental health for students

On September 4, 2024, the Ministry of Health issued Decision 2616/QD-BYT regarding the Plan for the implementation of the Program of School Health in preschool and general education institutions in conjunction with grassroots healthcare for the period up to 2026.

By 2026, 50% of schools in Vietnam must conduct assessment of mental health for students

This plan aims to enhance the quality of student healthcare, first aid, and accident and injury prevention in educational institutions to ensure the comprehensive development of students' physical and mental health. The targets by 2026 are as follows:

- 50% of educational institutions implement early detection assessments of risk factors for non-communicable diseases and mental health for students.

- 85% of educational institutions conduct periodic health checks for students at the beginning of the school year as per regulations.

- 75% of educational institutions provide adequate drinking water and clean water for daily activities and operations within the school, ensuring quality standards as per regulations.

- Regarding student restrooms:

+ 100% of educational institutions in Vietnam have restrooms

+ 50% of educational institutions in Vietnam have an adequate number of restrooms as per the regulations

+ 80% of educational institutions in Vietnam have restrooms that meet sanitary conditions as per regulations

- 100% of educational institutions in Vietnam organize educational activities on proper nutrition, healthy, and safe food for students through core curriculum hours and extracurricular activities.

- 100% of educational institutions in Vietnam (for those with organized school meals and school canteens) ensure conditions regarding hygiene and food safety as per regulations.

- 60% of urban educational institutions; 40% of rural educational institutions meet the recommendations of the Ministry of Health on ensuring proper nutrition according to age and diverse food options (for those with organized school meals and school canteens):

- 100% of educational institutions organize activities to propagate and educate on health, increase awareness on disease prevention, school-related diseases, non-communicable diseases, mental health, proper nutrition, safe and healthy food, and injury prevention in schools.

- 50% of primary to high school students are provided with information and counseling on mental health and age-appropriate psychological issues.
