By 2025, Each Vietnamese Adult Should Consume Less Than 7g of Salt Per Day

On March 28, 2018, the Ministry of Health issued Decision 2033/QD-BYT approving the national plan for advocating the reduction of salt in diets to prevent and control hypertension, stroke, and other non-communicable diseases.

some targets set to be achieved by 2025 are as follows:

- Over 90% of adults are aware of the harmful effects of consuming too much salt, recognize salty foods, and know ways to reduce salt intake.- Over 60% of adults implement at least one measure to reduce salt in their daily diet.- Reduce the average salt intake of adults to below 7g/person/day.- Over 90% of high school students understand the harmful effects of consuming too much salt and recognize foods that contain high amounts of salt.- Over 70% of students implement at least one measure to reduce salt intake as recommended.- 100% of boarding schools and schools with semi-boarding meals implement policies to reduce salt intake for students.- Over 90% of individuals diagnosed with hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and related illnesses are advised and guided on policies to reduce salt intake.

Decision 2033/QD-BYT is effective from the date of signing.
