the Government of Vietnam promulgates Decree 51/2024/ND-CP on May 15, 2024, amending Decree 08/2019/ND-CP on benefits concerning members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries

Benefits for minors accompanying members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries

The benefits for minor children accompanying members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries are stipulated as follows:

(1) Minor children accompanying members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries are eligible for tuition fee support. To be specific:

- Tuition fee support is provided monthly during the academic year, applicable to cases where tuition fees are actually paid in the host country.

- The maximum tuition fee support is 50% of the base living allowance. The support level will be reviewed and adjusted in accordance with Vietnam's socio-economic development conditions.

- The condition to receive tuition fee support is that in areas where local public schools do not have a policy of tuition fee exemption for children of Vietnamese agency members abroad or in areas where the children of Vietnamese agency members abroad must attend non-public schools.

(2) Minor children accompanying members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries are eligible for support in purchasing health insurance for medical examination and treatment abroad at the same level as the purchase of health insurance for medical examination and treatment abroad for members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries. This support level will be reviewed and adjusted in accordance with Vietnam's socio-economic development conditions.

(Currently, according to Decree 08/2019/ND-CP, minor children accompanying members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries are eligible for support in purchasing health insurance for medical examination and treatment abroad up to 50% of the health insurance benefits for medical examination and treatment abroad for members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries. This support level will be reviewed and adjusted in accordance with Vietnam's socio-economic development conditions).

Thus, the new regulation has increased the benefits for minor children accompanying members of Vietnamese agencies in foreign countries.

Decree 51/2024/ND-CP takes effect in Vietnam from May 15, 2024.
