Authority of traffic police in Vietnam in commanding and controlling traffic from January 1, 2025

The authority of the Traffic Police in Vietnam in commanding and controlling traffic are as follows:

- Temporarily suspend individuals and vehicles on certain road sections, redirect traffic lanes, designate temporary stopping or parking areas when traffic congestion occurs or as necessary for ensuring security and order;

- Within the scope and area assigned for the task of commanding and controlling road traffic or according to plans and orders from competent authorities, they are permitted to stop vehicles to inspect and control individuals and vehicles violating traffic order and safety according to the provisions of law;

- Penalize administrative violations in the field of road traffic, security, order, and other administrative violations in other areas of state management according to the provisions of law; apply preventive measures and ensure the handling of administrative violations as prescribed by law;

- Require agencies, units, organizations, and individuals to cooperate and support in resolving accidents, congestions, obstructions to traffic, or other cases causing loss of order and road traffic safety;

- Use weapons, support tools, and professional, technical means and equipment as regulated by law;

- Exercise other powers as prescribed by law.

For Traffic Command Police, aside from the duties and powers stipulated in clauses 1 and 2, Article 5 of Circular 69/2024/TT-BCA, they are responsible for collecting, analyzing, and evaluating related factors to propose solutions for directing road traffic activities to ensure order, safety, and smoothness.

Circular 69/2024/TT-BCA comes into effect from January 1, 2025.

Circular 26/2017/TT-BCA of the Minister of Public Security, which regulates the command and control of road traffic by the Traffic Police, ceases to be effective from the date Circular 69/2024/TT-BCA comes into effect.
