Official Dispatch 683/CATTT-TDQLGS on measures to prevent and combat malware spreading through Facebook Messenger in Vietnam has just been issued by the Authority of Information Security with content recommending users when using social networks.
Currently, many Facebook Messenger users in Vietnam have become victims of a type of malware in the form of a compressed file named video_xxx.zip, primarily targeting Chrome browser users. The purpose of this malware could be to mine cryptocurrency.
To ensure information safety and prevent the risk of malware attacks, the Department of Information Security advises users:
- Do not open strange files or links sent via Facebook Messenger or any other communication applications such as Viber, Zalo, email, etc.;- Users can report or send information to the Department of Information Security upon receiving strange files or links;- In cases where users have been infected, they should install and update anti-malware and antivirus software to detect, prevent, and remove malware.
