Abolishment of the Requirement for Parental ID When Prescribing Medication for Children

The Ministry of Health has just issued Circular 18/2018/TT-BYT amending and supplementing a number of articles of Circular 52/2017/TT-BYT regulating prescriptions and the prescription of chemical drugs and biological products in outpatient treatment.

Circular 18/2018/TT-BYT stipulates that when prescribing medication for children under 72 months of age, it is only necessary to record the child's age in months, weight, the name of the father or mother of the child, or the name of the person bringing the child for medical examination and treatment.

Additionally, health institutions are responsible for:

- The provincial and city Departments of Health under the central authority and the Ministry of Health must inform medical examination and treatment establishments (CSKCB) and relevant units in the area about the list of establishments authorized to supply and sell narcotic drugs;- For districts, district-level towns, and cities under the province that do not have establishments selling narcotic drugs, hospital pharmacies are required to supply narcotic drugs to outpatients in the area at the purchase price of CSKCB.

Furthermore, the prescription form in Appendix I Circular 52/2017/TT-BYT is replaced by the prescription form issued under Circular 18.

Circular 18/2018/TT-BYT takes effect from October 15, 2018.
