10 duties of the nutrition department or nutrition unit of a hospital in Vietnam from January 01, 2021

The Ministry of Health of Vietnam has issued the Circular No. 18/2020/TT-BYT on hospital nutrition.

According to the Circular No. 18/2020/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, the nutrition department or nutrition unit of a hospital shall have 10 duties (the nutrition department only has 06 duties according to current regulation of Circular No. 08/2011/TT-BYT), including:

- Give advice on hospital nutrition to hospital leaders;

- Formulate and implement technical procedures for clinical nutrition in hospitals;

- Examine, give advice and provide nutrition therapy suitable for the nutritional status and illness of patients;

- Develop diets suitable for the nutritional status and illness of inpatients;

- Cooperate with clinical departments in indicating diets suitable for patients suffering from severe undernutrition and patients receiving level I care;

- Manage food, process and provide diet meals for patients on their beds. Inspect and supervise food safety in hospitals;

- Inspect and supervise compliance with regulations on nutrition operations in clinical departments and hospitals;
