The Ministry of Health promulgates Circular 44/2018/TT-BYT stipulating the prescription of traditional medicine, herbal medicine, and the combined prescription of traditional medicine, herbal medicine with chemical drugs.
According to Circular 44, the prescription of traditional medicine and herbal medicine must comply with the following principles:
- Practitioners may only prescribe medication after obtaining the results of medical examinations and disease diagnoses;- The prescription must be appropriate to the disease diagnosis and the condition of the disease;- The combination of decoction drugs and finished drugs may be prescribed to a patient, provided these drugs have some overlapping ingredients or formulas;- If there are any amendments to the prescription, the prescriber must sign next to the amended content;- For prescriptions containing toxic herbs, the quantity must be clearly stated in both numerals and words. If the quantity is below 10, the numeral 0 must be written in front;- It is prohibited to include information, advertisements, marketing, etc., intended for disease prevention or treatment... in the prescription for non-medicinal products, except for medical equipment.
