On November 16, 2021, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam promulgated Circular 18/2021/TT-BYT stipulating diagnostic criteria and professional process for identifying drug addiction.
According to the Circular, the diagnostic criteria for drug addiction include the following 06 criteria:
- Criterion 1: Strong desire or compulsion to use drugs;
- Standard 2: Difficulty in controlling drug use behaviors in terms of the start time, end time or level of use;
- Standard 3: There is a phenomenon of tolerance to drugs;
- Standard 4: Becoming increasingly indifferent to other hobbies or interests due to drug use;
- Standard 5: Continued drug use despite knowledge of the harmful effects of the drug;
- Criterion 6: There is a state of drug withdrawal (drug withdrawal syndrome) when drug use is stopped or reduced.
A person is diagnosed with drug addiction when at least 03 of the above 06 criteria occur simultaneously for at least 01 month or if it exists for less than 01 month, it is necessary to repeat the same treatment. period within 12 months.
Circular 18/2021/TT-BYT of Vietnam takes effect from January 1, 2022 and replaces Joint Circular 17/2015/TTLT-BYT-BLDTBXH-BCA .
