Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Dac Phu, senior advisor of the Center for Emergency Response to Public Health Events in Vietnam, said that the introduction of the new strain of Omicron into Vietnam was not unexpected. This strain has a very fast transmission rate, and has been recorded in more than 100 countries around the world. In Vietnam, it is forecasted that in the coming time, cases of this strain may continue to be recorded.

However, Mr. Tran Dac Phu said that this strain is still derived from SARS-CoV-2, is still transmitted through droplets, is transmitted by respiratory route and still has a high risk of infection when in close contact, in the environment. closed gatherings of people, as well as spread through shared objects. Therefore, authorities and localities must continue to implement more drastic measures to prevent and control the current epidemic to reduce the spread of the disease. This expert especially emphasized personal prevention solutions, 5K messages and vaccination, as well as the preparation of the health system in case the number of cases may increase, avoiding passivity.

As the Lunar New Year is approaching, along with the new strain Omicron, the Delta strain is still spreading in our country, therefore, localities need to assess the risk of epidemics at all levels from communes, wards and above, from then develop scenarios from commune, ward, district, city, province level... “How to assess risk accurately, how much risk can be met, avoid inadequate response, even even over-response, affecting the social life of the people. Localities also need to have scripts to guide which activities are allowed, which activities must be stopped, and which activities need safe conditions. Since then, there must be inspection and supervision, even more drastic sanctions to prevent the epidemic," said Mr. Tran Dac Phu.

For people, this expert emphasized the implementation of 5K, restricting travel, not gathering, limiting crowds in closed rooms; Vaccinated people should not be subjective when taking preventive measures.

According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga, former director of the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), up to now, scientists all agree that the spread of the Omicron mutation is very fast. The virulence aspect of the new strain is still controversial.

Nguyen Huy Nga recommended, the most basic and easiest thing to do is that people need to do 5K well, especially need to seriously wear masks, wash hands and disinfect continuously, because these are key factors to prevent Infection prevention: "Practical experience shows that people who do 5K well are less likely to get infected. In addition to continuing to advise people to do 5K well, there should be sanctions to handle cases. violations, such as gathering in large numbers, not wearing masks".

The Ministry of Health said it will continue to closely monitor the situation of the COVID-19 epidemic in general and the possibility of infection with the new strain Omicron in particular. The ministry recommends that people must comply with COVID-19 prevention and control measures and be fully vaccinated.

Strengthen epidemiological surveillance for early detection of new strains

According to Prof. Dr. Phan Trong Lan, Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), the first case in Vietnam recorded with Omicron mutant infection was an invasive case, which has been isolated and managed promptly since entry. . Currently, the patient is isolated in a separate room and treated according to the protocol of the Ministry of Health, with no possibility of spreading to the community.

On the same flight as the first patient infected with Omicron strain in Vietnam, there were 165 other people. All of them have been isolated in accordance with regulations. Of these, mainly people in Hanoi and 3 people in other localities. The Ministry of Health has sent a telegram to localities with people traveling with the flight to carry out the management according to regulations.

Information from the 108 Military Central Hospital said that the first COVID-19 patient infected with the Omicron variant recorded in our country is in stable health and has not shown any clinical symptoms.

Previously, in order to actively prevent the risk of entering and spreading the Omicron strain into our country, the Ministry of Health directed the surveillance system to strengthen surveillance of the COVID-19 epidemic to detect early signs of abnormality. of COVID-19 outbreaks; requested the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Pasteur to proactively carry out gene sequencing of suspected new mutated infections, especially those with epidemiological history from countries in South Africa.

The Ministry of Health has also reported and proposed that the Government consider directing the suspension of organizing international flights to and from the following countries: South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique and suspending it. issue entry permits for passengers to/from these countries.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health also suggested that localities actively develop scenarios to respond to specific and feasible situations in the prevention of the COVID-19 epidemic in the area.

After working with the WHO representative in Vietnam on how to prevent and control Omicron mutation, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long signed a telegram to the chairmen of the People's Committees of the provinces and cities to strengthen the implementation of measures. prevent COVID-19 from this new strain.

In the official dispatch, the Minister of Health asked localities to direct the strengthening of supervision and management of cases of entry from abroad, especially cases to/from countries and regions that have already entered the country. recorded and spread the Omicron mutation in South Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique...) and some European countries; carry out testing, dysentery, medical supervision and monitoring for people on entry according to regulations and strictly handle cases of violations of regulations on epidemic prevention and control...

The telegram of the Ministry of Health also reminds localities to speed up the progress of vaccination against COVID-19 for subjects 12 years of age and older (priority is given to subjects aged 50 and older, people with underlying medical conditions) as soon as possible. vaccines are distributed, ensuring safety and effectiveness.

The Ministry of Health has also issued a document guiding the surveillance and prevention of COVID-19 for the Omicron variant (December 17).

Before the first case of Omicron mutation was detected, the possibility that Omicron mutation would appear in our country was very high, at Official Dispatch No. 1745/CD-TTg dated December 19, 2021, the Prime Minister issued a statement. request the Ministry of Health to closely monitor the situation of epidemics in the world, promptly give direction, guide and report to the Prime Minister for direction necessary and appropriate measures; not to be passive or surprised; not to overload the health system on a large scale; urgently guide the assessment of the epidemic level and necessary measures to prevent and control the epidemic in accordance with the epidemic situation, winter weather and the risk of Omicron mutation; strengthen the direction of epidemiological surveillance in order to detect new strains early.

All ministries, branches, People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities should strengthen direction in epidemic prevention and control measures; especially the inspection and strict handling of organizations and individuals that violate regulations on disease prevention and control.

The Ministry of Health, the People's Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities shall urgently direct and organize the implementation of vaccination safely and as quickly as possible in accordance with the guidance of the Ministry of Health; not leave out anyone who is indicated for vaccination who is not fully vaccinated (including booster), especially those in high-risk groups. The Ministry of Health ensures that enough vaccines are allotted to localities, absolutely no excess or shortage of vaccines occurs.
