Hanoi: Using antiviral drugs for people with mild cases of COVID-19

The Hanoi Department of Health has just issued Decision 4288/QD-SYT on the process of implementing a program of controlled use of antiviral drugs (Molnupiravir) in the community for people with mild COVID-19 cases in Hanoi.


This Decision replaces Decision 4245/QD-SYT issued on December 13, 2021 by the Hanoi Department of Health. Accordingly, the drug in the program is Molnupiravir, 200 mg tablet or 400 mg tablet.

The Department of Health requires facilities participating in the Program to strictly follow the process and instructions of the Central Lung Hospital and the Department of Science, Technology and Training (Ministry of Health).

Patients who are enrolled in the Program are those who test positive within 5 days; from 18 years of age or older, with priority given to cases over 50 years old or having underlying medical conditions; commits to agree to participate in the Program and has no contraindications to taking medication. In case the patient is isolated for home treatment, there must be a decision of the chairperson of the commune-level People's Committee or a competent authority to agree to the isolation at home.

The process consists of 4 steps:

Step 1 - Drug distribution: Dong Da General Hospital distributes Molnupiravir to district hospitals and health centers.

Step 2 - Patient screening: Commune-level health stations (including mobile medical stations) make a list of patients eligible to participate in the Program, perform screening, and make medical records of contract cases. Sign a commitment to participate in the Program and send it to the district health center (for the use of the software, instruct the patient to update information via the QR code issued by the Central Lung Hospital and declare and confirm on the app).

Hospitals and medical facilities that are assigned to receive and treat patients with COVID-19 will treat patients according to the procedures in the “Community-controlled controlled use program manual of Molnupiravir.” VND for people with mild form of COVID-19 in 5 provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Long An, Khanh Hoa and Da Nang" issued by the Central Lung Hospital.

Step 3 - The health station contacts the medical center to receive a sufficient number of drugs to treat the patient according to the list and give each patient 40 Molnupiravir 200 mg tablets, twice a day, 800 mg each time (4 tablets). ), drink for 5 days; dispensing drugs, instructing patients to use drugs, daily contacting patients (in person or by phone) to record adverse events (if any) within 14 days.

Step 4 - Units (treatment facilities, district health centers) appoint staff in charge of daily data entry into online software, make periodic reports and store medical records as prescribed. ; health centers regularly supervise and support health stations during the implementation of the Program.
