Giving the latest direction on vaccination for children from 5 to less than 12

In accordance with the Official Dispatch No. 2007/BYT-DP dated April 20, 2022 on providing guidance for submission to People's Committees of provinces and centrally-affiliated cities as follows:

Regarding the vaccination against COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to under 12 years

- Review and make a list of vaccines and formulate a plan for immunization of children aged from 5 to under 12 as soon as vaccines are distributed.

- To carry out vaccination to ensure safety and scientificity under the guidance of the Ministry of Health on the vaccination against COVID-19 for children from 5 to under 12 years old.

- Make reports on immunization results and post-vaccination reactions according to regulations.

- To strengthen the direction and communication on benefits of vaccination for COVID-19 vaccine and safety of vaccines; to mobilize parents and guardians to bring children from 5 to under 12 years old to be eligible for timely and full vaccination.

Accordingly, the People's Committees of the provinces and cities directly under the Central Government should urgently direct and carry out the vaccine injection for Covid-19 children from 5 to under 12 years old. Step up the review, listing and formulation of the plan and expeditiously carry out the immunization of vaccines right after the distribution of vaccines. To intensify the work of communication on the safety and efficiency of vaccines so as to mobilize parents and guardians of children aged between 5 and under 12 years to take their children to give timely and full vaccinations.

Implementing the organization of Covid-19 vaccine vaccination for children

Before March 28, 2022, the Ministry of Health issues the Official Dispatch No. 1535/BYT-DP on inoculation of COVID-19 vaccine for children from 5 to under 12 years old.

To prepare for vaccination against COVID-19 for children aged between 5 and under 12 years:

- Coordinate with provincial-level Education and Training Departments in reviewing and making lists of injected children from grade 1 to grade 6 who are aged between 5 and under 12 years. If these children do not attend school, cooperate with local authorities in making a list of them.

- Formulate plans and prepare sufficient vaccination conditions for immunization right after vaccination.

- Type of vaccine: The vaccine is approved for use by the Ministry of Health for this age group. Dosage content and distance between injections are instructed by manufacturers and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

- Coordinate with the Department of Education and Training to organize vaccinations in the form of campaigns, free of charge at fixed vaccination establishments, at mobile injection sites and schools (for places where schools are studying).\. The immunization shall be governed by regulations laid down in Section III of Guidelines for organization of COVID-19 vaccination session issued together with the Decision No. 3588/QD-BYT dated July 26, 2021 and the Decision No. 43/QD-BYT dated January 07, 2022 of the Minister of Health.

+ Parents and guardians shall sign the Approval for vaccination according to the template stated in this Official Dispatch.

+ Carry out pre-vaccination screening examinations as regulated in the Decision No. 2470/QD-BYT dated June 14, 2019 and the Decision No. 5002/QD-BYT dated October 29, 2021 of the Minister of Health.

+ Guidelines for monitoring and caring after the vaccination according to instructions given in the Decision No. 3588/QD-BYT dated July 26, 2021 of the Minister of Health.

- To propagate and mobilize people to take children of under 5 years old to be eligible for timely and full vaccination.

Accordingly, the provincial/municipal Health Services shall coordinate with the provincial/municipal Education and Training Services in scrutinizing and making lists of children aged between grade 1 and grade 6, who are aged between 5 and under 12, and those who are not sent to school, to coordinate with local administrations in making such lists. The vaccine must be given after it is distributed. Vaccination in form of campaign, free of charge in fixed and mobile establishments and schools Provide guidance on monitoring and caring for children after vaccination.

Before the vaccination, the child's parent or guardian shall sign the vaccination sheet.
