Recently, the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam has issued the Resolution No. 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 in 2020 on arrangement of commune-level and district-level administrative divisions and establishment of Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Resolution No. 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam, Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh City is officially established from January 01, 2021, specifically as follows:
1. Organization of administrative units of Thu Duc City
According to Article 1 of the Resolution No. 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam, arrangement of district-level administrative divisions to establish Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh City is specified as follows:
- Establish Thu Duc City by merging a total 49.79 square kilometers (sq km) of natural area, 171,311 people of District 2; a total 113.97 sq km of natural area, 310,107 people of District 9 and a total of 47.80 sq km of natural area, 532,377 people of Thu Duc District. Following the establishment, Thu Duc City has 211.56 sq km of natural area and population size of 1,013,795 people. Thu Duc City borders District 1, District 4, District 7, District 12, Binh Thanh District; Binh Duong Province and Dong Nai Province.
- Arrange commune-level administrative divisions in Thu Duc City as follows:
+ Merge a total of 1.74 sq km of natural area, 124 people of An Khanh Ward into Thu Thiem Ward. Following the merger, Thu Thiem Ward has 3.25 sq km of natural area and population size of 428 people. Thu Thiem Ward borders An Khanh Ward, An Loi Dong Ward; District 1, District 4 and Binh Thanh District;
+ Establish An Khanh Ward by merging a total of 2.03 sq km of natural area, 4,333 people of Binh Khanh Ward and a total of 1.89 sq km of natural area, 18,821 people of Binh An Ward. Following the establishment, An Khanh Ward has 3.92 sq km of natural area and population size of 23,154 people. An Khanh Ward borders the Wards of An Loi Dong, An Phu, Binh Trung Tay, Thao Dien, Thanh My Loi, and Thu Thiem; District 7 and Binh Thanh District.
Thus, the old An Khanh Ward will be completely merged into Thu Thiem Ward. Concurrently, the new An Khanh Ward will be established on the basis of merging Binh Khanh Ward and Binh An Ward.
- After the establishment of Thu Duc City and the arrangement of commune-level administrative divisions, Thu Duc City has 34 wards below: An Khanh, An Loi Dong, An Phu, Binh Chieu, Binh Tho, Binh Trung Dong, Binh. Trung Tay, Cat Lai, Hiep Binh Chanh, Hiep Binh Phuoc, Hiep Phu, Linh Chieu, Linh Dong, Linh Tay, Linh Trung, Linh Xuan, Long Binh, Long Phuoc, Long Thanh My, Long Truong, Phu Huu, Phuoc Binh, Phuoc Long A, Phuoc Long B, Tam Binh, Tam Phu, Tang Nhon Phu A, Tang Nhon Phu B, Tan Phu, Thao Dien, Thanh My Loi, Thu Thiem, Truong Thanh, Truong Tho.
2. Establishment of the People's Court of Thu Duc City
According to Article 3 of the Resolution No. 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam, dissolve the People's Courts of District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc District to establish the People's Court of Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh City. The People's Court of Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh city consists of the following specialized courts:
- Criminal Court;
- Civil Court;
- Family and Juvenile Court;
- Administrative Court;
- Economic Court.
Note: The People's Court of Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh city shall inherit the duties and powers of the People's Courts of District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc District as per the law.
3. Establishment of the People's Procuracy of Thu Duc City
According to Article 4 of the Resolution No. 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam, dissolve the People's Procuracies of District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc District to establish the People's Procuracy of Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh City.
Note: The People's Procuracy of Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh city shall inherit the duties and powers of the People's Procuracies of District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc District as per the law.
Thus, from January 01, 2021, Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh City has 22 district-level administrative divisions, including 16 urban districts, 05 suburban districts and 1 city; 312 commune-level administrative divisions, including 58 communes, 249 wards and 05 towns.
