1. Conditions for temporary residence registration in Vietnam

In Article 27 of the Law on Residence 2020, the conditions for temporary residence registration are as follows:

- A citizen who comes to live in a lawful place of residence located outside of the commune-level administrative unit where they register their permanent residence for work or study or another purpose for 30 days or more must register temporary residence.

- The maximum time limit for temporary residence is 02 years, which may be extended multiple times.

- Citizens may not register the places mentioned in Article 23 of the Law on Residence 2020 as their new temporary residences.

2. Application for extension of temporary residence in Vietnam 2023

2.1. Application for extension of temporary residence in 2023

Application for extension of temporary residence includes:

- Declaration of change of residence information (Form CT01 of Circular 56/2021/TT-BCA);

For a minor who is a minor, the declaration must clearly state the consent of the father, mother or guardian, unless otherwise agreed in writing;

- Papers and documents proving lawful residence.

2.2. Application for extension of temporary residence at the place where the unit is stationed in the People's Public Security

* Extension of temporary residence at the place where the unit is stationed in the People's Public Security, a dossier includes:

- Declaration of change of residence information (Form CT01 of Circular 56/2021/TT-BCA);

- A letter of introduction from the head of the direct management unit, clearly stating the contents to carry out procedures for temporary residence extension and the unit having accommodation for officers and soldiers (signature, stamp).

2.3. Application for extension of temporary residence according to the list

Extension of temporary residence according to the list, dossier includes:

- Declaration of change of residence information (of each person) (Form CT01 of Circular 56/2021/TT-BCA);

- A written request for extension of temporary residence, clearly stating information on lawful residence and a list of people extending temporary residence.

The list includes the following basic information about each person:

Last name, middle name, and first name;

Date of birth; sex; personal identification number; and duration of temporary residence.

3. Form of application for extending temporary residence in Vietnam

- Submit the application directly to the commune-level police station.

- Submit online applications through portals providing online public services such as:

Online at the Public Service Portal through the National Public Service Portal, or through the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security, the Residence Management Public Service Portal.

Time to receive dossiers: Office hours on working days from Monday to Friday and Saturday morning (except holidays and New Year's as prescribed by law).

4. Procedures for extension of temporary residence in Vietnam

Step 1: Individuals and organizations prepare documents according to Section 2.3

Step 2: Individuals and organizations submit dossiers at the commune-level police station.

Step 3: When receiving the application for extension of temporary residence, the residence registration agency checks the legality and content of the application:

+ If the application is complete and valid, the applicant shall receive the application and issue a receipt for the application and an appointment to return the results (form CT04 of Circular 56/2021/TT-BCA) to the registrant;

+ In case the application is eligible but not enough, the applicant will be instructed to supplement and complete the application, and issue an instruction sheet for supplementing and completing the application (form CT05 of Circular 56/2021/TT-BCA) will be issued to the registrant;

+ In case the application is not eligible, it will be rejected and a slip of refusal to receive and handle the application (form CT06 issued together with Circular 56/2021/TT-BCA) will be issued to the registrant.

Step 4: Individuals and organizations pay residence registration fees as prescribed.

Step 5: Based on the appointment date on the Application Receipt Form and the appointment to return the results, receive a notification of the result of the settlement of residence registration procedures (if any).
