This is a notable content of the Resolution No. 1109/NQ-UBTVQH14 on the establishment of Phu Quoc City and wards of Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, issued by the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam on December 09, 2020.
According to Resolution No. 1109/NQ-UBTVQH14 of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam, Phu Quoc City and wards of Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province are officially established from January 01, 2021. To be specific:
- Establishing Phu Quoc city on the basis of the entire natural area and population size of 179,480 people. Phu Quoc city will border Ha Tien city, Kien Luong district; Gulf of Thailand and Cambodia.
- Establishing wards in Phu Quoc city, including:
+ Duong Dong ward (adjacent to Cua Duong commune, Duong To commune and the Gulf of Thailand) on the basis of the entire natural area and 60,415 people;
+ An Thoi ward (adjacent to Duong To commune and the Gulf of Thailand) on the basis of entering the area and population size of An Thoi town and Hon Thom commune (including 4610 people of Hon Thom commune and 37485 people of An Thoi town).
Thus, from January 01, 2021, after the establishment of Phu Quoc city and wards of Phu Quoc city, Phu Quoc city has a total of 02 wards and 07 communes including: Duong Dong ward, An Thoi ward, Bai Thom commune, Cuu Can commune, Cua Duong commune, Duong To commune, Ganh Dau commune, Ham Ninh commune, Tho Chau commune.
Besides the establishment of Phu Quoc city, the People's Court and the People's Procuracy of Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province will be established on the basis of inheriting the People's Court and the People's Procuracy of Phu Quoc district, Kien Giang Province.
It can be seen that, after 15 years of construction and development, Phu Quoc has become a place to attract many domestic and foreign tourists, along with potential fishing grounds and deep sea areas creating favorable conditions for tourism, fishing and developing the seaport system. Therefore, in order to establish an urban space in the area and strongly develop the tourism industry in the near future, from 2021 Phu Quoc will be the first island city of Vietnam.
