Ministry of Health: Instructions on medical isolation for children under 15 years old in Vietnam

Recently, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Official Dispatch 897/BYT-MT Instructions on medical isolation for children under 15 years old.

In order to continue to be proactive in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic and at the same time ensure safe and convenient living conditions for children during the medical isolation period, the Ministry of Health proposes to the Committee of the People's Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities to direct relevant units to organize medical isolation for children under 15 years old with the following specific content:

(1) 14-day medical isolation period

Subjects and forms of medical isolation

- For children under 5 years old: perform medical isolation at their own home when meeting the requirements for COVID-19 prevention and control.

- For children from 5 years old to 15 years old: carry out concentrated medical isolation for seven days after having three negative test results for SARS-CoV-2 (the first time at the beginning of isolation). , the second time on the 3rd, and the third time on the 7th), allowing medical isolation at home when meeting the requirements of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control. Moving from concentrated medical isolation facilities to your home must strictly comply with regulations on epidemic prevention and control.

(3) The conditions for prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic for home medical isolation for children comply with the guidance issued in conjunction with this official letter; having a healthy person care for and supervise the child during the isolation period; and not allowing the elderly to live in the same house as the children.Local authorities are responsible for monitoring and supervising closely, taking samples for testing for children and their supervisors at least every 3 days and for the last time on the last day of the isolation period.

(4) People's Committees of provinces and cities direct:

People's Committees of communes and wards will only allow home isolation after they have checked and confirmed that they are fully eligible for isolation; organize the management, supervision, and strict implementation of the organization of medical isolation at home; medical supervision of children and their caregivers during the isolation period and after the end of isolation; and organize the collection and transportation of infectious medical waste according to regulations.

The Center for Disease Control of the province, city, or designated unit organizes testing for SARS-CoV-2 for children and their caregivers.
