1. Officer ranks system
According to Article 10 of the Law on Military Officers of Vietnam 1999 , the military rank system of officers includes 03 levels, 12 levels, specifically as follows:
(1) The First Class has four ranks:
- Lieutenant;
- Lieutenant;
- Senior lieutenant;
- Captain.
(2) The rank of Colonel has four levels:
- Major;
- Lieutenant Colonel;
- Colonel;
- Colonel.
(3) General has four levels:
- Major General, Rear Admiral of the Navy;
- Lieutenant General, Vice Admiral of the Navy;
- Lieutenant General, Admiral of the Navy;
- General.
2. Military ranks of professional soldiers
In Article 16 of the Law on Professional Soldiers, National Defense Workers and Officials 2015 , the military ranks of professional soldiers are determined corresponding to their professional, technical, and salary levels, including:
- Professional military colonel;
- lieutenant colonel professional military;
- Major in professional military;
- Professional military captain;
- Professional military lieutenant;
- Professional military lieutenant;
- Professional army lieutenant.
In which, the highest military ranks of professional soldiers include:
- The senior type is a professional army colonel;
- The intermediate type is a professional military lieutenant colonel;
- The primary type is a professional army major.
3. Military ranks of non-commissioned officers and soldiers
According to Clause 2, Article 8 of the 2015 Law on Military Service , the military ranks of non-commissioned officers and soldiers are as follows:
- Non-commissioned officers of the Vietnam People's Army have three ranks, including:
+ Sergeant Major;
+ Sergeant;
+ Corporal.
- Soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army have 2 ranks, including:
+ First Class;
+ Private.
(Non-commissioned officers, active-duty soldiers and non-commissioned officers and reserve soldiers are promoted to the military rank corresponding to their positions; with outstanding achievements in performing their duties, they shall be promoted to the military rank ahead of schedule. ; with particularly outstanding achievements, they will be considered for promotion to outstanding military ranks).
