Law amending and supplementing a number of provisions of the Law on Physical Training and Sports was approved by the National Assembly this morning (June 14, 2018) with a rate of 93.84% of Delegates in favor. The notable point in this amended Law is the official inclusion of the form of entertainment sports betting into the Law's regulations.

Previously, Decree 06/2017/ND-CP also acknowledged betting but only permitted betting on horse racing, greyhound racing, and international football. Other sports, including domestic football, are still not allowed to involve betting.
According to the Law on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Articles of the Law on Physical Training and Sports, the Government of Vietnam will have to decide on the list of sports activities allowed for sports betting business and detail the regulations on sports betting business. Thus, in the near future, more sports may be permitted for betting by viewers.
However, participation in betting is only allowed at a sports betting business enterprise that meets the legal conditions and has a Certificate of eligibility for sports betting business.
The Law on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Articles of the Law on Physical Training and Sports takes effect from January 1, 2019.
