Ho Chi Minh City's Sports Centers Officially Allowed to Operate from April 29, 2020

Recently, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued Official Dispatch 1553/UBND-VX on the implementation of Directive 19/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.

In that regard, Official Dispatch requires beauty parlors, cosmetic surgery clinics, spas, massage parlors, saunas; recreational areas, theaters, cinemas, wedding centers, dance halls, bars, karaoke bars, pubs, beer clubs, sing-along venues; and electronic game shops (Internet cafes, online games) to continue to suspend operations.

Previously, Official Dispatch 1490/UBND-VX from the city's People's Committee required indoor sports centers and sports businesses to cease operations. However, now Official Dispatch 1553 has repealed this regulation.

Thus, since April 29, 2020, indoor sports centers and sports businesses, including gyms, yoga studios, swimming pools, Zumba, aerobics, etc., will be allowed to resume operations.

However, indoor sports centers and sports businesses must strictly comply with the regulations set out in the Safety Activity Evaluation Criteria for Covid-19 prevention and control issued by the relevant state authority; they will be subject to management and supervision by functional agencies and local authorities; and are requested to review and adjust the Safety Activity Evaluation Criteria for Covid-19 prevention and control according to Directive 19/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister of Vietnam.

In addition, Official Dispatch also clearly states that, besides the aforementioned, the following activities must continue to be suspended:

- Receiving new guests at lodging establishments operating under the Homestay or Airbnb model.- Festivals, religious ceremonies, sports competitions, events with large gatherings in public places, stadiums, and unnecessary large events.- Gatherings of over 30 people in public places, outside of offices, schools, hospitals.- Activities and meetings with gatherings of over 30 people.

Additionally, the mandatory wearing of masks in public places and workplaces must continue to be enforced. A minimum contact distance of 01 meter between individuals in public places must be maintained. Citizens are advised to limit going out unless absolutely necessary.
