09 requirements for quarantined persons for COVID-19 prevention and control in Vietnam

This is a notable content of the Decision No. 879/QĐ-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam in 2020 on the guidelines on medical quarantine at home and in lodgings for COVID-19 prevention and control.

According to the Decision No. 879/QĐ-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, quarantine at home and in the following types of lodgings: private houses; apartments; tenements; dormitories of schools, industrial parks and factories; hotel rooms, rented housing and lodgings of regulatory bodies and units.

Besides, quarantined persons include:

- Persons having contact with confirmed cases;

- Persons subject to quarantine in quarantine zones and testing negative for SARS-CoV-2 according to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines;

- Other groups of people according to the direction of the Prime Minister or National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control and the Ministry of Health’s guidance given based on the pandemic’s progress.

Quarantined persons must comply with the following requirements:

- Undergo quarantine at their home or in their lodgings for the required period and make a commitment with the local government (using the form enclosed with Decision No. 879/QĐ-BYT).

- Check their own temperature and monitor their health on a daily basis. Record their temperature and general health condition in the daily health tracking form. Inform their temperature and health condition to commune-level healthcare workers on a daily basis.

- Immediately inform the in-charge commune-level healthcare worker if there is fever, coughing, throat pain or breathing difficulty.

- Avoid leaving their room and having direct contact with family members, people in their lodgings and other people;

- Not leave their home or lodgings while under quarantine.

- Ensure personal hygiene, wear facemasks and regularly wash their hands with soap and water or other antiseptics. Not share personal items such as bowls, chopsticks, spoons, cups, toothbrushes, face towels, etc. with other people.

- Put used facemasks, handkerchiefs and tissues into separate garbage bags to be handled according to regulations.

- Not eat or sleep together with other family members or other people in their lodgings.

- Have a balanced diet, drink enough water and do simple exercise in their rooms.

Moreover, requirements for quarantine rooms are as follows:

- It is preferable that the quarantined person stays in a separate room. Otherwise, the quarantined person should sleep on a separate bed, which is placed at least 2 meters away from other beds and far away from common areas.

- Quarantine rooms shall be well ventilated, be regularly cleaned, have no air conditioner and minimal interiors.

- If possible, select rooms situated at the end of the corridor, downwind and/or far away from areas with many passersby for quarantine.

- Quarantine rooms shall have their own bathrooms, soap and water.

- Quarantine rooms shall have garbage bins with lids.
