1. What is the Vietnam Elderly Association?

Article 25 of the Law on Elderly 2009 provides for the Vietnamese elderly association as follows:

- The Vietnam Elderly Association is a social organization representing the aspirations and legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese elderly.

- The Vietnam Elderly Association is organized on the principle of voluntariness and operates under the Constitution, laws and its Charter.

2. Name and symbol of Vietnam Elderly Association

In Article 1 of Decision 972/QD-BNV in 2017 approving the Charter (amended and supplemented) of the Vietnam Elderly Association, the name and symbol are as follows:

- Vietnamese name: Hội Người cao tuổi Việt Nam

- English name: Vietnam Association of the Elderly (abbreviated as VAE).

- The Vietnam Elderly Association has its own symbol (logo), which is copyright registered in accordance with the law.

3. Principles and purposes of the Vietnam Elderly Association

Article 2 of Decision 972/QD-BNV in 2017 stipulates the principles and purposes as follows:

The Vietnam Elderly Association (Association) gathers and unites the elderly in Vietnam to organize the Association, in order to create conditions for the elderly to live a happy, healthy, happy, and useful life for themselves, their families, and society; participate in socio-economic construction and development; and protect social order and safety; contribute to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country; and participate in international integration for the sake of a rich people, a strong country, democracy, justice, and civilization.

4. Nature of Association and scope of activities of Vietnam Elderly Association

In Article 3, Decision 972/QD-BNV in 2017 stipulates the nature of the Association and the scope of activities as follows:

- Vietnam Elderly Association is a social organization, operating nationwide, in the field of elderly people according to the provisions of law.

- The Association is under the state management of the Ministry of Home Affairs; the state management of the main sectors and fields of operation of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, and the ministries and branches related to the field of operation of the association in accordance with the provisions of law.

5. Legal status of Vietnam Elderly Association

Article 4 of Decision 972/QD-BNV in 2017 stipulates the legal status of the Vietnam Elderly Association as follows:

- The association has a legal status, seal, account, logo, and mouthpiece as prescribed by law.

- The headquarters of the Association is located in Hanoi. In accordance with the law, associations may set up representative offices in provinces and centrally run cities.

6. Funds for operations of the Vietnam Elderly Association

In Article 26 of the Law on Elderly 2009, the funds for operations of the Vietnam Elderly Association are as follows:

- Funds for the operations of the Vietnam Elderly Association come from the following sources:

+ State budget support;

+ Membership fee;

+ Other lawful revenue sources.

- The Vietnam Elderly Association shall manage and use its operation funds according to law.

7. Tasks of the Vietnam Elderly Association

In Article 27 of the Law on Elderly 2009, the tasks of the Vietnam Elderly Association are as follows:

- To rally, unite and mobilize the elderly to participate in its activities, contributing to the implementation of socio-economic programs, the education of young generations, the building of civilized lifestyles, cultured families, the maintenance of political security, social order and safety, and the national construction and defense.

- To act as the core in the movement to look after, take care of and promote the role of the elderly.

- To protect the elderly's legitimate rights and interests.

- To study the elderly's demands and aspirations for proposal to competent state agencies.

- To represent the Vietnamese elderly in participating in international organizations and people's foreign relation activities in the interest of the elderly and the Fatherland.
