Below is a notable provision in the Law on Enforcement of Criminal Judgments 2019, passed by the National Assembly of Vietnam on June 14, 2019.

Clause 8, Article 10 of the Law on Enforcement of Criminal Judgments 2019 explicitly stipulates one of the prohibited acts:
"8. Torture and other forms of cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment or punishment against persons serving sentences or judicial measures."
Previously, the Law on Enforcement of Criminal Judgments 2010 generally prohibited infringing upon the legal rights and interests of persons serving sentences without specifying specific acts.
It can be seen that the Law on Enforcement of Criminal Judgments 2019 has detailed and specified the prohibited acts more clearly than those stipulated in the Law on Enforcement of Criminal Judgments 2010.
Furthermore, the Law on Enforcement of Criminal Judgments 2019 also adds acts of discrimination and differential treatment towards persons or commercial legal entities serving sentences to the list of prohibited acts.
This is a very humane provision of Vietnamese law. Despite having to serve sentences, persons or commercial legal entities serving sentences are still protected by the law in terms of their legitimate rights and are not subjected to discrimination or differential treatment during their sentence.
