Recently, President Truong Tan Sang signed Ordinance No. 10/2014/L-CTN on June 26, 2014, announcing the Law on Amendments and Supplements to certain provisions of the Law on Vietnamese Nationality.

Revised Vietnam Nationality Law 2014 amends and supplements Clause 2, Article 13 regarding "Persons with Vietnamese nationality" as follows:
+ Overseas Vietnamese who have not lost their Vietnamese nationality according to Vietnamese law before this Law takes effect shall remain Vietnamese nationals.
+ Overseas Vietnamese who have not lost their Vietnamese nationality and do not have documents proving their Vietnamese nationality shall register with the Vietnamese representative offices abroad to be recognized as Vietnamese nationals and be issued a Vietnamese Passport.
Simultaneously, the Law also stipulates that failure to register the retention of Vietnamese nationality will no longer be a basis for losing Vietnamese nationality.
The Law takes effect from June 26, 2014.
