On September 03, 2020, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Decision 1368/QD-TTg approving the investment policy for the project on Production, Issuance, and Management of Citizen Identity Cards. Based on this, the Ministry of Public Security is drafting a Circular regulating the new Citizen Identity Card model for the people in Vietnam.

In the Draft Circular, the new model of the Citizen Identity Card is proposed as follows:
1. Front side of the Citizen Identity Card of Vietnam:

=> As such, the contents on the back of the new Citizen Identity Card model have swapped the positions of the left and right sides. Moreover, the new Citizen Identity Card model uses both English and Vietnamese.

Thus, in addition to personal identification documents such as the 9-digit Identification Card, Citizen Identity Card (with barcode), Passport as currently in use, there will be an additional document, which is the Chip-Integrated Citizen Identity Card .
