On July 15, 2020, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 82/2020/ND-CP stipulating penalties for administrative violations in the fields of judicial support; judicial administration; marriage and family; civil judgment enforcement; bankruptcy of enterprises and cooperatives.

From September 1, 2020 (the effective date of Decree 82/2020/ND-CP), administrative penalties for violations related to marriage, divorce, and polygamy in Vietnam will be supplemented and significantly increased compared to the current regulations in Decree 110/2013/ND-CP and Decree 67/2015/ND-CP. To be specific, the penalties for violations are detailed in the following table:

Thus, from September 1, 2020, for cases where a husband or wife commits "adultery" in Vietnam, the fine will be from 3,000,000 VND to 5,000,000 VND instead of from 1,000,000 VND to 3,000,000 VND as currently.
