From August 1, 2020, the Temporary Vehicle Registration Certificate is valid for 30 days

From August 1, 2020, the temporary vehicle registration certificate has a validity period of 30 days - This is a new provision stipulated in Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA, which regulates the process of issuing and revoking registration and license plates for road motor vehicles.

To be specific, in Article 12 of Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA stipulates cases where vehicles must be temporarily registered, including:

- Vehicles that have not been officially registered and have no official license plates but need to participate in traffic;- Vehicles registered abroad authorized by competent authorities to enter Vietnam for tourism, conferences, fairs, exhibitions, physical training, and sports;- Vehicles serving conferences organized by the Communist Party, the State, or the Government of Vietnam;- Automobiles processing the withdrawal of registration certificates and license plates for re-export or transfer within Vietnam;- Vehicles with decisions for transfer, sale, donation, or gifting.

According to current regulations in Circular 15/2014/TT-BCA, it is stipulated that: “The temporary vehicle registration certificate is valid for a period of 15 days.

However, from August 1, 2020, which is the effective date of Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA, Clause 1, Article 14 stipulates that “The temporary vehicle registration certificate has a maximum validity period of 30 days.

Thus, from August 1, 2020, the temporary vehicle registration certificate will be valid for 30 days.

In addition, from August 1, 2020, the following cases are not required to apply for a temporary vehicle registration certificate, specifically:

- Automobiles, chassis vehicles with cabins, trucks without containers, trailers, semi-trailers, and tractors imported or manufactured, assembled, moving from warehouses, ports, factories, dealerships to registration locations or other dealerships, warehouses;- Vehicles with foreign license plates authorized for temporary import and re-export within a specific period (except for vehicles operating in border areas with customs gates): vehicles attending conferences, fairs, sports events, exhibitions, tourism; transit vehicles; right-hand drive automobiles (left-hand drive) allowed to participate in traffic according to the law;- Newly assembled vehicles in Vietnam undergoing trial runs on public roads;- Testing cars, vehicles operating within restricted areas (when moving out of restricted areas).
