Urgent: Ho Chi Minh City Continues Suspension of Passenger Cars, Buses, App-based Taxis from April 23, 2020

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just issued an Urgent Notice No. 4774/TB-SGTVT on the organization of road passenger transport activities during the Covid-19 pandemic period within Ho Chi Minh City.

While waiting for the directive from the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, the People's Committee of the city to issue the directive on implementing urgent measures for the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic after April 22, 2020, the Department of Transport announces the continued suspension of passenger transportation according to fixed routes, buses, taxis, contracted vehicles (including technology-based contracted vehicles under 9 seats), tourist vehicles operating within Ho Chi Minh City from 00:00 on April 23, 2020 until further notice, except for special cases for official duty reasons and cases of providing food, essential goods, worker and expert shuttle services from enterprises, transportation of production materials, vehicles supporting the transportation of people for urgent hospital cases.

Vehicles allowed to operate under the aforementioned cases must meet the following requirements:

- Disinfect the vehicle before and after picking up passengers;

- Do not transport more than 50% of the seats on the vehicle and no more than 20 people on one trip;

- Drivers, service personnel on the vehicle, and passengers must wear masks, undergo medical checks before boarding the vehicle, and make health declarations as required.

The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City assigns the Public Transportation Management Center to implement this to bus transport business units and inform the public to plan their travel accordingly during the mentioned period. At the same time, this unit must continue to monitor the evolution of the epidemic and directives from the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, the Ministry of Transport, and the People's Committee of the city to promptly advise and propose to the Department of Transport for consideration.

This announcement supersedes Announcement 4766/TB-SGTVT issued by the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City earlier on the same day regarding the resumption of taxi and Grab operations.
