Circular No. 15/2014/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam on vehicle registration was issued on April 04, 2014 and effective from June 01, 2014, of which one of the notable contents is the regulation on the license plate codes for automobiles and motorcycles in the 63 provinces and cities across the country.
According to Clause 3 Article 31 of Circular No. 15/2014/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, the arrangement of letters and numbers on domestic license plate is as follows:
- Two first numbers represent the residential location where the vehicle is registered and the next is a series of registered characters (letters);
- The second numeric group stands for the numerical order of registered vehicles, including 05 natural numbers ranging from 000.01 to 999.99.
Currently, the civilian vehicle license plates nationwide range from number 11 to 99. Among them, Ho Chi Minh City has the highest number of license plates, specifically 11 plates: 41 and 50 to 59. The next is the capital city of Hanoi, with 9 license plates: 29-33, 40. Following that are Hai Phong and Dong Nai, both having 2 license plates each, while the remaining provinces and cities have 1 license plate each.
