From 2020, automobiles changing lanes without signaling will be fined up to 5 million VND

This is a further increase in penalties as stipulated in Decree 100/2019/ND-CP on administrative sanctions in the field of road and railway traffic issued by the Government of Vietnam on December 30, 2019.

To be specific, point g Clause 5 Article 5 Decree 100/2019/ND-CP stipulates a fine ranging from 3,000,000 VND to 5,000,000 VND for drivers of cars and similar vehicles committing any of the following acts:

"g) Failing to comply with regulations when entering or exiting expressways; driving in the emergency stopping lane or the shoulder of expressways; changing lanes at unauthorized locations or without signaling in advance when driving on expressways; failing to comply with safe distance regulations with the vehicle ahead when driving on expressways;"

Thus, according to this Decree, from January 1, 2020, drivers of cars and similar vehicles who change lanes without signaling in advance when driving on expressways will be fined up to 5,000,000 VND.

Previously, according to the provisions of Decree 46/2016/ND-CP, the fine for this act was only from 800,000 VND to 1,200,000 VND.

In addition, Decree 100/2019/ND-CP also emphasizes that if the act of changing lanes without signaling in advance causes a traffic accident, the driver of the vehicle will also be stripped of their driving license for 02 to 04 months. (Previously, this act resulted in the disqualification of the driving license for 01 to 03 months).
